My name is Pilar Mauri; I am an international visual artist. Fine Art Photographer and Set Designer.
Shortly after receiving B.A. honours in Fine Art Photography and Visual Communication, I developed a career combining my two passions, Photography and Set Design.
Whilst constantly exploring self-motivated Projects, I have been commissioned by Dancers, Choreographers, Dance and Theatre Companies in Portrait and Advertising Photography.
I often work with artists, mostly dancers, but I am not exactly a “dance photographer”. I do not want to photograph something that is a document of someone else’s art form.
My desire is to create an artistic expression – a theatrical and poetic story with the visual language of Photography and the emotion of Dance. Dancers possess that ability to express what is too deep to find words.
I am passionate about creating mysterious Dance images, intoxicated with light, colour and movement – and ethereal Portraits that show beauty, elegance, excess, dramaturge, with a dash of dark fairy-tale.
In early 2013, after ten years as a Professional Photographer, I founded “Studio 1897” (London).
I have an extensive client list that includes commissions from The Royal Ballet (London); The Royal Ballet School (London); The Scottish Ballet (Glasgow); The Birmingham Royal Ballet (Birmingham); The English National Ballet (London); The School of American Ballet (NYC); Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance (NYC); Ballet Flamenco de Madrid (Madrid); Los Vivancos Flamenco Dance Company (Barcelona); Ballet Nacional de España (Madrid) to name a few.
